Cone Penetrometer

High Speed Stirrer
A mechanical stirring device in which a suitably mounted induction motor will have a vertical shaft having speed of 6000 to 8000 revolutions per minute when loaded. The shaft will be equipped with a replaceable stirring paddle of either of the types and made of metal. The surface will be of such length that the stirring paddle will operate not less than 20 mm and not more than 35 mm above the bottom of the dispersion cup. The dispersion cup will be supported on a rest and shall have a removable baffle. A special dispersion cup conforming to either of the designs shown in IS 2720 (Part IV) 1985 will be provided to hold the sample while it is dispersed. The stirrer will be free from vibration whilst operation and the base will be made of M.S. of at least size 20 cm X 25 cm with rubber cushions. The container and baffle will be of such material as not be affected by the reagents like sodium Carbonate, Sodium silicate , Sodium Hexametaphosphate etc. The stirrings device will be suitable for operation on 230-250 Volts A C with controller switch for different revolution. It will be provided with 3 core wiring of with off-on switch on side. The dimensions of stirring paddles for stirring apparatus and dispersion cup will be as per IS 2720(Part IV)1985. |

North Dakota Cone
The instrument consists of a rod carrying a loading platform at the top and a hardened steel cone at the bottom. The rod is mounted vertically and slides freely up and down in the collars of the frame and can be locked in any position as required. Pocket Penetrometer

Soil Hydrometer
There will be no abrupt changes in the cross section of the hydrometer that will hinder cleaning or drying or permit air bubble to be trapped. The graduation of hydrometer will be on the basis of liquid having a surface tension of 55 dynes/cm. The graduation lines will be at intervals of 0.0005, every alternate line will extend beyond the shortest lines; every tenth graduation will exceed that of all the intervening lines and will be numbered in full. The basis of the scale will be density (g/ml) at 27' deg C. The maximum permissible scale error on the hydrometer is plus or minus one scale division. |

Split Spoon Sampler
This is used for standard penetration test for determining penetration resistance (N value) of soil which can be related to unconfined compressive strength. Penetration resistance (N Value) of soil is determined by giving a number of blows with a 65 kg weight falling through a given distance of 75cm required to penetrate the assembly to a depth of 30cm. When properly seated on the ground. The sampler is made from a steek tube split lengthwise and held together by a head fitted with a ball check valve and a hardened steel shoe of inside cutting edge of 35mm dia. Static Cone Penetrometer - Hand Operated
The drive is by means of a rack and pinion and is driven manually through a gearing arrangement. The gearbox rack and pinion are fixed on two upright pillars and the movement of the rack is guided by a bracket and two pillars. The loading is done hydraulically. Two pressure gauges 15cm dia. One of Low capacity o-60kg/sq.cm.in 0.5kg/cm/sq. divisions and other 0-160kg/cm.sq are provided to indicate the penetration resistance. Isolation valve is provided to automatically isolate the lower range gauge when it reaches the maximum capacity. The valve can be adjusted and locked at desired values between 20 to 60kg/cm.sq. Provision is made to anchor the unit at site and there is provision for lateral shifting so that subsequent tests could be performed without having to shift the entire anchorage system. |

Universal Automatic Compaction Apparatus
It is a motor driven mechanical compactor useful for soil compaction into 100mm or 150mm dia moulds. Two sets of rammers are provided, one of 2.6kg. And the other of 4.89 kg arranged for 310mm and 450mm fall respectively. For compaction soil into 150mm dia moulds, 100mm face dia rammers having weight of 4.89Kg is used. Where as for 100mm dia moulds, they are of 50mm dia. The rammer assembly is provided with a ratchet and pawl arrangement to lift it from the top of the soil layer. When the rammer reaches the required height the pawl release the rammer, which falls freely on soil surface. The release mechanism is connected by an arm moving up and down which is connected to a reduction gear coupled to the motor through another arm. An automatic blow counter fitted to the compactor is used to set the number of blows. The base plate of the specimen mould is to be fitted to the rotating base plate of the instrument which makes 1/5th revolution per operation.
